Programme 2025

It is that time of year again to clear Himalayan Balsam from watercourses in the area.

We will be meeting at Viv and Tony’s house. They will make sure there is enough parking for everyone through the field gate near the house. They have kindly offered to provide refreshments after the project.

The area we will be working on is very dense with nettles and brambles so I recommend long trousers and long sleeve shirts. Albeit flat, it is water logged in places, so I also recommend sturdy shoes or wellies, There is a bit of a walk from Hurston Mill to the work site which is a large path further up the valley.

We will be returning to Dyke Farm. This morning, we will be raking hay in one of the meadows that Nicola is creating. If we have the time and the energy, we will also need to weed around the trees that we planted back on our previous winters visits.

At our latest site, we will continue the scrub clearance of these important chalk grasslands to improve the habitat for the butterflies. This site is more challenging than our regular sites as it is on the northern slopes of the Downs.

To help our fellow Storrington Conservation group, we have arranged a mornings work at Sullington Warren. We will be helping them with their maintenance of the area.

Parking in the National Trust Car Park just off Water Lane, opposite the entrance to the Cemex Sandgate Quarry (beware, it is a rather bumpy entrance road).
