Short-haired bumblebee project manager for Bumblebee Conservation Trust
She will be telling us about the work of the charity and her work to reintroduce the Short-haired bumblebee in the south east.

Profile of the project leader Dr Nikki Gammans

Nikki Gammans was an undergraduate at the University of Edinburgh studying biology with hons in Ecology, she went on to complete a PhD at the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology and Southampton University studying ant behavior, she then travelled to the states to complete a one year post doctorate on invasive ant species. On her return she worked with ZSL London Zoo and Surrey wildlife trust to translocation a rare ant species before beginning her role as project officer on the short-haired bumblebee reintroduction.

As project officer Nikki visits farmers and land owners to give advice on managing and maintaining flower rich habitat, completes bumblebee identification courses, gives outreach talks and walks to interested groups, travels to Sweden with volunteers to collect short-haired bumblebee queens and trains volunteers to do bumblebee surveys across the release zone of Dungeness and Romney Marsh in Kent. Nikki is responsible for meeting the aims of the project.
