THE RIVERSIDE WALK - A DREAM COME TRUE

For a long time there had been a beaten path alongside the River Stor which was used, mainly, by dog walkers.

It had, for a long time, been the dream of the Society to construct an all weather walk along this track.

Our criteria was that it had to be environmentally friendly and in keeping with the surroundings.

The estimated cost of this project would be in the region of £25,000 to £30,000.

The Society then actively started to seek sources to cover this cost.

The land was owned by Horsham District Council and an approach was made to them for funds.

In conjunction with HDC the route was planned and it was agreed that the Society would carry out the initial clearance after which HDC would move in with all the machinery necessary to complete the project.

Work commenced in the late autumn of 1995 - this clearance work was completed in 1997 after a total of approximately 450 man (& women) hours of work

Enter HDC - a ramp at the Village end had to be constructed to enable access for Mothers with prams and for people with wheelchairs to use it.

A new bridge over the River was to be built and the whole length had to be surfaced with an environmentally friendly material.

The whole project was completed in 1999 and is now a very popular walk.

The photos under show the progress from start to finish.
