A public Meeting is being called to discuss the plan below and how it will affect the Society
This is to be held in Sullington Village Hall on Thursday 18th. September at 7.30pm

THE GLADE
THE GLADES - DOWNSVIEW AVENUE
This is an open piece of woodland which in times past had been set aside by West Sussex County Council as the site for a new school. For some 10 or more years some of the Members of the Conservation Society had looked after it - mainly mowing and keeping the footpaths clear
Eventually this plan was shelved and the land was passed to to Horsham District Council for housing.
As this was one of the last open spaces in the area the strong lobby was set up to either block the scheme or at least minimise the threat.
Following strong protest - not least from Storrington Conservation Society the scheme was modified - the outcome being that 50% of the land would be used for housing and the remainder would be kept as an open space.
After this decision was reached we moved in to properly clear the land and establish proper footpaths.
Horsham District Council have now passed ownership of this land to Storrington & Sullington Parish Council and now, together with them, we will be drawing up a long term management plan for the area.
In July a meeting was called By Storrington Conservation Society because of it’s concern that it was, because of it’s other commitments in the Village, unable to give THE GLEBE open land area the attention it deserves.
The Society therefore invited Residents in the vicinity of THE GLADE to a meeting to discuss possible ways to improve and maintain this very valuable piece of open land.
After considerable discussion it was provisionally agreed that a sub-group within the Storrington Conservation Society would be formed.
This group would be full Members of the Society ( this has the advantage that if this
sub-group is formed it would be covered by the Society’s insurance policy) but with its main responsibility would be, where possible, the maintenance of THE GLEBE and if this was not possible by their own efforts the full Society could be called upon to assist.
